Fallbrook field hockey drops first two league matches

Though the Fallbrook High varsity girls field hockey team got off to a slow start in league play, overall, the Warriors are continuing to progress and win more than they lose.

Playing at home Friday, Oct. 11, against Valley Center, the Warriors eked out a 1-0 win over the Jaguars in a nonleague game, improving their overall record to 8-4 on the season.

Coaches Jeremiah Fuller and Debbie Berg and the Warriors collected another win earlier in the week, a 2-0 result over University City Oct. 5.

Those two wins came after the Warriors dropped two league matches – a 4-0 loss to Mission Vista on the road a day earlier and an overtime loss to San Pasqual Oct. 2.

Coming into league play, the Warriors were playing well, thrashing Escondido 5-0 on Sept. 27 and winning an overtime game with Great Oak (Temecula) 2-1 on Sept. 25 on an Erin Murray screamer just minutes into the overtime period.

Before that, the Warriors lost a nonleague game 1-0 at San Marcos, won a forfeited game with Pt. Loma, lost to 3-2 at home against Mission Vista and beat Vista 2-1.

The Warriors will have a chance to avenge that overtime loss to San Pasqual when they host the Eagles at 3:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, and get another crack at Mission Vista at home Wednesday, Oct. 23.
