FALLBROOK – While a witch in flight had a major run in with a light pole, many other scarecrows can be seen on the streets and at homes in Fallbrook. Close to 100 scarecrows were part of the Fallbrook Scarecrow committee's roster of locations, and many more residents added to the fun in their neighborhood.
Judging is done and the winners were on display at the Harvest Fair. See the list below for details.
For the second year, the Silent People are walking into town on South Mission Road. Bonsall businesses have joined in the event and scarecrows with pumpkin heads are on display in downtown Fallbrook. The Tinman on Joe's Hardware's roof has been upgraded greatly by Mike Guthrie and is now lit all night with solar power; battery power donated by Battery Pros.
Fallbrook Scarecrow Days, a committee of the Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce, works all year to make Fallbrook a special destination for tourists who roam California to find interesting places to visit.
The group provides workshops to help any who want some help to make their own scarecrow. This year the Angel Society gave their support for this effort to bring tourism to Fallbrook and San Diego Gas and Electric repeated their support of this project through its community outreach program.
With this support and the minimal fee charged for the workshops and basic supplies, advertising and press releases are sent to surrounding Southern California locales.
Fallbrook, a unique small town made up of people who really care about their hometown is an ideal location for the Scarecrow Days event. Shop owners, organizations and residents alike participate and make it fun for everyone, while hopefully boosting the economic stability of the downtown area. That was the original purpose of this yearlong work.
Speaking for the committee, Jackie Heyneman said that what has come from this venture is a fantastic group of people who work together to benefit the business community and the enjoyment of all. The group said they appreciate the support the Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce has given. They invite folks to join the team and participate next year.
