Warriors start slow in loss to Ramona

The Ramona High School Bulldogs scored early and often to get their homecoming festivities off to a good start Friday, Oct. 18, then cruised to a 48-8 win over the still-winless Fallbrook High School Warriors.

After returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown, the Bulldogs never looked back, scoring four more times in the first quarter and tacking on 10 more in the second quarter to take a 45-0 lead at the half.

The Bulldogs (1-7, 1-3) scored on one of the two punts they blocked on the night and racked up almost 250 rushing yards on the ground.

The Warriors their touchdown in the final 30 seconds of the game.

Head coach Troy Everhart said he can't be anything but proud of the way his team continues to fight week after week.

"I couldn't be more proud and pleased to be their head coach with their resilience," Everhart said. "Anybody could come out for football, give half an effort and these guys choose to come out there and give everything. I love these kids, they are awesome. They have been true Warriors, and they keep sticking their bodies out there and giving us all they got."

Everhart said he's looking forward to getting to work right after the season ends on building the program and building up the kids in the weight room.

"I don't know if I got all the answers, but I am going to search for them if I don't," he said. "We gotta change our body types in the weight room as soon as the season is over, and it would be nice to have an opportunity to install a system from scratch."

The coach said the difference between their opponents and the Warriors physically is clear week in and week out.

"What we all deserve here at Fallbrook is a greater commitment on everybody's part – players, coaches, parents – to building it back to where it's always been," Everhart said. "Hopefully when we have some consistency year after year after year we will see the results."

He said this year's team will fight in its final two games; that's for sure.

"These kids are in it for the right reason; they want to restore Fallbrook football," Everhart said. "I really feel we're close, not just because of the young kids, but the effort that they give week in and week out. The score doesn't reflect the effort that they're giving.

"It's just amazing. They could shut it down, but what they're doing is serving a greater purpose in getting this program back to where it belongs," he said.

The Warriors will take on the 7-1 (3-0) San Pasqual High School Eagles on the road before coming home to take on the winless Rancho Buena Vista High School Longhorns Friday, Nov. 1, to close out the season.
