Fire reported on Sleeping Indian Road

North County and Oceanside firefighters on Friday were able to knock down a fire that destroyed recreational vehicles and spread to nearby brush in Oceanside just west of Bonsall.

The blaze was reported around 3 p.m in an area off of Sleeping Indian Road and Las Tunas Drive, according to information from the North County Fire Protection District.

John Choi, the North County Fire public information officer, said shortly after the fire broke out that there were reports the fire involved multiple RVs and had spread to vegetation.

The Oceanside Fire Department said on Twitter around 4:30 p.m. that the fire had been contained but had extended to a mulch pile and wasn't expected to actually be extinguished for "a couple of hours."

Oceanside police spokesman Tom Bussey told City News Service one person had to be taken to Palomar Hospital for treatment of minor burn injuries.

Around 8 p.m., Choi told Village News firefighters were leaving the scene of the blaze, though at least one crew was expected to remain on scene through the night to make sure there are no flare-ups.

It wasn't immediately clear what caused the fire.
