Warrior end volleyball season with win

Fallbrook High School head volleyball coach Jason Dale would have preferred to end his first season as the Warriors' coach with a loss in the CIF playoffs rather than with a win to conclude the regular season, but Dale and his players settled for a victory

"We ended our season with a win. We had a great home win against Valley Center our Senior Night," Dale said. "It was a good kind of finish to the season."

The three-game victory over the Jaguars took place Oct. 25. "That was a nice home win," Dale said. "It just kind of all came together."

Fallbrook's Oct. 4 win over Valley Center required five games. The Warriors won the Oct. 25 match in three sets. Fallbrook followed 26-24 and 25-12 wins in the first two games with a 28-26 triumph to close out the match. "It doesn't get much closer than that," Dale said.

Although the Warriors only dominated in one set, the ability to win close games is a positive for Dale. "For the most part I think we got things ironed out," he said.

Fallbrook concluded the season with a 12-26 overall record and the Warriors' 3-7 statistic in Valley League play gave them fifth place in the six-team standings.

"We're fighting against teams that are competitive," Dale said.

Dale noted that increased experience allowed the Warriors to hold leads and be on the preferred side of the score at the end of the game. "The wins will come," he said.

"We're really proud of the girls," Dale said. "They fought back."

Dale cited attitude as well as resilience for the Warriors' improvement. "They kind of just built each other up," he said. "Everyone whether they were on the court or off the court supported each other."

The losses included six in two days when Fallbrook failed to win a match during the Sept. 27-28 Scripps Ranch Tournament. "We had that really bad tournament," Dale said. "That was a tough one."

The Warriors had four seniors. That includes Olivia Christopherson, who was injured and made her 2019 Valley League debut on Senior Night. "It was a great way for her to kind of at least get her last game in," Dale said.

Christopherson, who was an outside hitter, was also one of the team captains. "Olivia going down really hurt," Dale said.

Outside hitter Sonsi Jarvis, libero Kendall Sprint and defensive specialist Maggie Walker were also honored during the Senior Night ceremonies.
