Fallbrook Music Society presents duo harp

FALLBROOK – Fallbrook Music Society will host a one-of-a-kind performance Sunday, Nov. 24, at 3 p.m., featuring Duo Gliss, two professional harpists, Hee Jin Yoon and Ko Ni Choi.

Held in the Community Room of the Fallbrook Public Library, the performance is free to the general public. No tickets are required.

"Fallbrook Music Society is working hard to stretch the scope of classical music concerts we bring to our community and we have never presented an ensemble quite like this before. This concert has a wow factor of 10," Bob Freaney, president of the board of directors, said.

Yoon and Choi are active, multifaceted classical performers and teachers. They performed with numerous groups including the Cincinnati Ballet Orchestra and Toronto Symphony Orchestra.

In fall 2016, the two women founded Los Angeles Youth Harp Ensemble where they coach and train young talented harpists in the greater Los Angeles area. In December 2016, ensemble finished their first season of concerts in Redondo Beach Library and Villa Sorrento.

As a professional harp duo, Duo Gliss works closely with composers of many genres to record, publish and transcribe new pieces for the harp.

Winners of the 2016 Beverly Hills National Audition, Duo Gliss regularly performs on the Laguna Beach Live Music Series and Redondo Beach Chamber Music Series.

The Nov. 24 concert features the first movement of Handel's Harp Concerto in B-flat Major, Debussy's "Clair de Lune" and more contemporary works from Isaac Albeniz and Bernard Andrés.

"Honestly, no instrument is more beautiful than the harp. These two women have literally invented a new art form, and I'm just thrilled to have them here in Fallbrook," Freaney said.

The concert begins with a program preview at 2:30 p.m. Weather permitting, a reception immediately follows the concert on the Poet's Patio.
