Fallbrook Music Society presents Ástor Piazzolla's 'Four Seasons'

FALLBROOK – Continuing its Classical Sundays format, Fallbrook Music Society presents Camarada, a local chamber ensemble, performing Ástor Piazzolla's most famous composition "Four Seasons of Buenos Aires" in its entirety.

The concert takes place Sunday, Feb. 23, at 3 p.m. in the Community Room of the Fallbrook Public Library. The concert is free to the general public; no tickets are required.

"Fallbrook Music Society is working hard to stretch the scope of classical music concerts we bring to our community and this concert has a wow factor of 10!" Ann Murray, executive director of Fallbrook Music Society, said.

The evenings concert features the music of the great Ástor Piazzolla, who referred to his music as "Nuevo Tango," an avant-garde version of Buenos Aires' most popular dance form. Piazzolla fused classical, jazz, and tango into a distinctive musical idiom that has become his own genre.

The "Four Seasons of Buenos Aires" are a set of four tango compositions, which were originally conceived and treated as different compositions rather than one suite. The pieces were scored for his quintet of violin or viola, piano, electric guitar, double bass and bandoneón.

"What makes this concert even more special is that it features Raul Jaúrena, a Grammy award-winning tango master, who is among today's most prominent bandoneon players," Murray said. "I honestly can't remember when we've had a concert with this level of instrumental diversity."

Established in 1994, Camarada is a local ensemble dedicated to sharing the joy of chamber music by pairing performers of the highest caliber with intimate spaces throughout San Diego. It will be Camarada's third appearance in Fallbrook over the past 10 years, and they return to the community to share their passion for tango music.

A preview of the performance with the musicians begins at 2:30 p.m. Patrons are encouraged to come early for best seating.

The Fallbrook Library is located at 124 S. Mission Road in Fallbrook. More information is available at http://www.fallbrookmusicsociety.org.
