Talk to your kidneys

When the nurse practitioner told me my kidneys were, “Bad!” the hair stood up on my arms. She said they were level 3. A “5” would mean dialysis and a transplant. I would have to be much more careful with my sugar intake.

I checked the internet. The recommended diet for kidney problems was the opposite of the diet for diabetes. It said the kidneys liked white rice and white bread rather than whole grain and not to eat spinach or meat protein. Even bananas and tomatoes were out. Yikes.

I asked my doctor what to do about the diet differences; she said it would have to be a balancing act between both diets. So, I cut back on my carbs and meat protein and was extra careful about any sugar products.

I had read once that the body responds to beliefs and words, so I decided to start talking to my kidneys. I told them how much I loved them and how grateful I was for the wonderful work they do to keep me healthy.

I saw myself petting them like a dog or cat and asked them to get well so I could be happy, healthy and creatively productive. Every time I thought about them, it was with love and gratitude.

Well, something worked because between the change in diet and the tender loving care, my next blood test showed no kidney problems at all.

I had been told they could not heal, but that I could prevent them from getting worse. That message was obviously not true because they have healed. So, my recommendation is to talk to them. Talk lovingly with gratitude to your kidneys, and they will respond in kind.
