San Diego CHP gets new captain

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego CHP office has announced its new top cop.

Taylor Cooper, Badge No. 13962, a 25-year veteran of the California Highway Patrol, took over as the leader of San Diego Area CHP office Jan. 31.

Cooper was promoted to captain of the San Diego Area from the Morongo Basin Area where he served as lieutenant commander. Captain Cooper has a bachelor’s degrees in education Fresno State University. He graduated the CHP Academy in 1995 and was assigned to the Baldwin Park area office. Cooper has been assigned to several area offices throughout California where he has served as a recruiter, public information officer, field training officer, field supervisor and lieutenant.

Cooper is looking forward to building a great working relationship and trust with the communities the CHP serves in San Diego. He wants the community to see the CHP as their agency they can count on and trust.

Cooper has a passion for coaching and mentoring and is looking forward to taking on this role through youth sports in the community. He believes through sports and education youths can achieve their personal goals in life. He wants to continue building relationships with local law enforcement, fire, Caltrans, military and EMS partners.

Cooper is committed to reducing the mileage death rate by reducing DUI, teen driving collisions, aggressive driving, distracted driving and street racing. The San Diego CHP Area will be providing proactive enforcement, and education through teen, older driver, and driving under the influence programs.
