U.S. Forest service requests assistance from RivCo Fire Department

The Riverside County Fire Department is responding to a U.S. Forest Service controlled burn on South Main Divide Road near the unincorporated area of Lake Elsinore this afternoon.

The request for assistance was made Friday, March 6 at 12:36 p.m. according to the Riverside County Fire Department's live incident feed.

Firefighters began the prescribed burn about 8:30 a.m. today but a shifting wind pushed the flames over a containment line, according to Darrell Vance with the Trabuco Ranger District.

Riverside County Fire Department spokesperson Tawny Cabral, said the fire, which is located out of the controlled burn lines is "small" in nature.

5-acre fire is just outside the Rancho Capistrano development off the south main divide, due south of Ortega Highway, just southwest of Lake Elsinore, Vance said.

"Most of it is still in the project boundaries," Vance said, adding that about "an acre or so of the fire" is outside the controlled-burn containment line.

"There's currently no threat to any public structures," Vance told City News Service at about 2 p.m.

No evacuations have been ordered at this time.

The flames were moving east toward Lakeland Village, but there's a great deal of green from the forest in the way, Vance said.
