Fifth annual Zero Waste Fair goes virtual

ENCINITAS – The fifth annual Zero Waste Fair hosted by I Love A Clean San Diego and the city of Encinitas will help create a roadmap for people interested in living a waste-free lifestyle. Free online registration is open now at http://www.CleanSD.org for the virtual event set for Saturday, Aug. 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration is required to attend the day’s live interactive webinar and is open to anyone in or outside Encinitas.

“No matter where you live in San Diego County or beyond, everyone is welcome to join us for this unique event that will provide simple and actionable ways to start cutting wasteful habits from your life,” Emily Nelson, education manager of I Love A Clean San Diego, aid. “We want everyone to benefit from more time, more money and less waste through low-waste living.”

This year, the Zero Waste Fair presents a variety of informative and fun presentations, demonstrations and Q&A sessions. Guest experts will highlight low-waste living resources, composting tips, recycling help, current environmental justice topics and more. Guests will also have the opportunity to try eco-friendly crafting, set personal zero waste goals and win sustainable prizes!

“The term zero waste can seem like an impossible mark to achieve, but it is an aspirational goal that will lead us to effectively protect our planet, eliminate harmful consumer products like single-use plastics and conserve natural resources,” Nelson said. “We don’t claim to be perfect at this, but every little bit helps. Everybody has the power to do something.”

Registration for the virtual event is free. Donations are welcomed to support I Love A Clean San Diego’s environmental education programs for K-12 students throughout San Diego County.

Highlighted topics include:

- Living zero waste with the EcoGoddess

- Guided tour of a refill store

- Climate action planning at the city of Encinitas

- Composting at home

- Recycling right

- Environmental justice from the University of San Diego

- Crafting with repurposed materials to send a message
