Boys and Girls Clubs of North County provide hope to Fallbrook families

FALLBROOK – During a time of need in the community, the Boys & Girls Clubs of North County is stepping up their efforts to serve Fallbrook families.

Like many businesses in Fallbrook, the Boys and Girls Clubs of North County closed its doors in March in response to the initial COVID-19 outbreak; however, the pandemic did not stop the club's efforts to find new ways to serve the community.

Club staff began working on an online, interactive program that any youth could gain access to through their Facebook, Instagram and YouTube accounts. This all-new virtual program showcased physical challenges, crafts and educational themes.

To enhance the experience of the virtual program, the club distributed nearly 400 supply packs each week to the youth in the community. These packs provided members with the materials they would need to participate in the following week's activities, as well as school supplies, craft supplies and some treats.

Club staff also jumped at the opportunity to partner with Fallbrook Regional Health District, Fallbrook Food Pantry and the Fallbrook Union Elementary School District this summer to provide food boxes and meals to Fallbrook families in need. Whether it was working at the food pantry, providing home delivered meals and food boxes or handing out meals at the schools, Boys & Girls Club staff could be spotted all over town serving children and families.

The club did not stop there. On June 1, the club opened its doors to children of working families. Wearing masks, social distancing and following all required safety protocols, the children and staff were so excited to be able to get back to arts and crafts, learning activities, swimming, sports and being around their peers.

This program was a game changer for many parents needing to go back to work but who could not without a safe place for their children to be while they were working.

Starting Aug. 17, the club again partnered with FUESD to provide their all-new Learning Support and Enrichment program. This program is being offered Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. for club members.

Following all county safety guidelines, the program offers members help with their distance learning and breakfast, lunch and a snack in addition to all the great programs the club traditionally offers. All of this is being offered in a safe, enriching environment where our youth are able to be among their peers again.

"To witness the dedication of our club staff during this pandemic makes me proud to represent this organization," Rex Bright, board president for the Boys and Girls Clubs of North County, said. "Their tireless efforts to serve this community during this pandemic truly embodies the Fallbrook spirit of helping others in their time of need."
