RatLite helps vehicle owners eliminate rodents as weather cools down

SAN DIEGO – It's no secret. When the temperatures cool down at night in North County San Diego, rat and other rodent activity heats up.

Local auto repair shops are reporting that rats are looking for warmth and shelter in cars and trucks and damaging interiors and engine wires, requiring costly repairs. Similar reports are coming in about rats getting into storage areas of RVs and even the heater enclosures of spas/pools.

RatLite LLC, a North County San Diego-based startup that manufactures a device to eliminate rats and other rodents using patented, advanced light technology, is proving to be an effective solution, according to several merchants, including a Fallbrook business owner.

"We've sold a lot of RatLites and, judging from the feedback we've received from our customers, they do an amazing job of eliminating rats from car and truck engines," Tim Redmond, owner of Fallbrook Motors, said. "The devices do exactly what they say they'll do: keep rats out of engines, simply and effectively."

RatLite features advanced light technology that rats can't tolerate. The small, ruggedized devices work by flash-blinding rodents when they enter an engine compartment or other dark, enclosed space by rapidly flashing both green and ultraviolet LED lights at about 10 times a second. The lights drive them away, instead of killing them like poisons, toxic chemicals and traps.

"It's like a human coming into a dark room and then turning very bright lights on and off... except rats' vision is much more sensitive than ours," RatLite inventor Richard Morton said. "We were looking for an innovative, humane way to eliminate rats and rodents, and that's why we created Ratlite."

Simply affixed to a flat surface in an engine compartment with a supplied adhesive, RatLites flash 24/7 and last for five years or 40,000 hours. The devices have their own power supply, so no additional wiring or external power sources are needed.

RatLites are available at several North County merchants and around the country. For a list of local merchants or to order online, visit http://RatLite.com.
