FALLBROOK – The Better Business Bureau has named George Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning as a winner of the 2020 BBB Torch Awards for Ethics in Southern California.
This esteemed recognition raises awareness in marketplace ethics, and honors businesses who operate with integrity. Winners in each category were announced Oct. 28.
"This achievement is not only a dream come true for my own career aspirations, but also a reflection of a lifetime of hard work put in by the generation before us who established this company based off ethics and excellence in the trades. My father, George Slaven, founded the company in 1984 but died tragically in a work-related accident in 2009. Together as a team of family and friends, we carried the torch of our family business after his untimely passing. We are proud to honor him by continuing his legacy of excellence in the industry, and look forward to serving the community for many years to come," CEO Marie Wade said.
The BBB Torch Awards for Ethics were established to recognize outstanding businesses that maintain a solid commitment to ethics and trust in the marketplace. Companies are selected by an independent panel of volunteer community leaders based on criteria established by the international Association of Better Business Bureaus.
All winners completed an evaluation where they demonstrated their commitment to ethics in six categories: Transformation at the Top: Leadership Commitment to Ethical Practices; Reinforce & Build: Communications of Ethical Practices; Unite the Team: Leadership Practices to Unify the Organization; Steer Performance: Organizational Commitment to Performance Management Practices; Treasure People: Organizational Commitment to Ethical Human Resource Practices and Enthusiastically Re-invest!: Organizational Commitment to the Community.
"This has been a difficult year for businesses, and doing the right thing is not always easy. These companies have demonstrated a commitment to ethical business practices even in the most difficult times," Shelley Bradley, BBB director of programs and special events, said. "This year's winners represent BBB's community of trustworthy businesses that operate with integrity at the forefront."
BBB made the critical decision to pivot this year's in-person celebratory event to a virtual format as an ongoing commitment to keep up our community safe and healthy. Throughout November, winners will be celebrated through a visual digital campaign on BBB's social media channels.
