The live wreath, designed by volunteers with the National Charity League, San Luis Rey chapter, hangs in the Angel Shop's workroom where it has brought much cheer during the busy holiday season.
FALLBROOK – A total of $9,000 in monetary donations to several local nonprofits was approved by the board of directors of the Angel Society of Fallbrook in December.
The Friends of the Fallbrook Community Center, Friends of the Fallbrook Library and the Fallbrook Land Conservancy's Save Our Forest committee each received $2,000 in assistance.
A longtime supporter of the Fallbrook Community Center, the Angel board acknowledged that for many years the center has been "a powerful force helping our community's children, families and seniors." Funds will be used to offset the costs of many of its programs so that families can continue to participate in certain activities at the center during this challenging time.
The Angel Society has also been a strong supporter of the Friends of the Fallbrook Library's many community programs. The library is now open on a limited schedule and continues to offer educational, entertaining and other helpful programs.
Save Our Forest sought funds to help support its "work parties" as its volunteers continue to help out year-round on various projects, including pruning trees and combatting infestations of non-native plants. Funds will also go towards irrigation repairs in areas where trees were recently planted in the Fallbrook Art Center parking lot.
The Botanical Community Development Initiatives received $1,000 in funds to support its "farm to people" program that delivers boxes of nutritious vegetables and fruits to needy families in Bonsall, Fallbrook and Oceanside. The group has developed and manages urban farms, community and school gardens. It also operates child development centers for children, ranging in age from 2 to 5, in four communities in North San Diego County.
Oso Amil-Operation Showers of Appreciation was also awarded $1,000 in funds to continue its mission to honor members of the military, veterans and Wounded Warriors, as well as assist military moms and their families. Types of assistance have included appreciation banquets for pregnant mothers and "Pamper Care" packages, back-to-school supplies, gift cards and holiday events.
William H. Frazier Elementary School and the Potter Jr. High School PTA each received $500 to help support various student programs.
The Angel Society raises funds through the operation of the Angel Shop, a thrift store in Fallbrook that is managed and staffed entirely by volunteers.
The shop is open for business on a minimal schedule, Wednesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Donations are accepted in the outside breezeway only, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The shop will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, as well as on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
