Fallbrook Regional Health District board take their oath of office

FALLBROOK – The board of directors of Fallbrook Regional Health District held its regular meeting Dec. 9, and newly elected board members Stephanie Ortiz and Barbara Mroz took the oath of office and will each serve a four-year term from 2020-2024.

New officers were elected and include the following: Chair Howard Salmon, Vice Chair Barbara Mroz and Secretary Kate Schwartz-Frates. In addition, Jennifer Jeffries was again appointed Treasurer. Stephanie Ortiz is new to the board and serves as a member.

Stephanie Ortiz – Zone 2

As a board director, Ortiz said she will advocate through a community-centered approach. Her experience in the public service sector for six years in the areas of public health, education, workforce development, social services, immigration rights and food justice in Orange, Alameda and San Diego counties provided an expansive and deep-rooted commitment to understanding diverse, multigenerational and multicultural approaches to health and human rights. As a human rights defender, humanitarian search and rescue volunteer and garden liaison for local efforts serving Fallbrook, she aims to serve keeping dignity and cultural awareness in mind. Ortiz received her bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of California Irvine in 2015.

Barbara Mroz – Zone 4

As a board member, Mroz said she seeks to support health care systems in the community to provide continued services to district citizens in an effective and efficient manner, inclusive of physicians and other health care entities to foster good health through education and access to care.

Fallbrook Regional Health District is a special district covering affordable community health needs for residents of Bonsall, De Luz, Fallbrook and Rainbow. The district supports community health services addressing top health disparities, including behavioral health, cancer, diabetes, heart disease and stroke. Beginning in 2020 and continuing is 2021, the district helps to facilitate COVID-19 testing sites working with San Diego County, Cal Fire and North County Fire Protection District.
