Art bench installed at Live Oak Park

When Jim Lyle purchased one of the art benches at the Save Our Forest auction November 2020, he had Live Oak Park in his mind. Lyle has dedicated several volunteer years to clearing poison plant species, cleaning out weed overgrowth and repairing the footbridge to welcome visitors to the cool and natural spot.

Because the bench he bought was painted by recognized natural world artist Neill Ketchum – replete with flora and fauna – the park was a perfect spot for it.

The Fallbrook Garden Club, of which Lyle is a member, will supply native plants to enhance the surrounding area. The plaque dedication reads as a tribute to his two golden retrievers Hungry and Sierra as well as Rascal, a rescue dog.

The SOF "Take A Seat auction " raised necessary funds supporting the five key programs of "Save Our Forest" including: 1) the monthly cleanup of Old Highway 395, 2) Downtown Tree Stewards, 3) twice monthly tree maintenance work groups, 4) "Plant-a-tree & Cut the Carbon" homeowner tree discount and advisory program and 5) its environmental education program for kids in elementary school.

Save Our Forest founder and chairperson Jackie Heyneman said she was "grateful for how the artists and community responded. Everyone embraced the project which brought artists, tree people and the business community together in a unique way. "

So much has happened over the last year as we have grappled with a pandemic and activity restrictions. Yet the mighty band of tree lovers continue the necessary work of maintaining our shady walkable downtown.

Please join us in small groupings outdoors to share in the camaraderie. You just might hold the next creative way to support the Save Our Forest committee and their amazing programs. For more information, call 760-728-5395 or visit https://www.fallbrooklandconservancy.org/save-our-forest.
