Latest county news

A lot has been happening recently in San Diego County, and progress continues to be made. On April 15, everyone 16 years and older became eligible for the coronavirus vaccine.

While the Johnson & Johnson vaccine has been put on pause, the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are still available in San Diego County. I know the vaccine appointment websites can be confusing, so if you have any problems, 211 can help schedule an appointment, or you can contact my office at 619-531-5555.

Vaccine passports have been a major discussion point around the country, and while some private businesses may implement them, I am not in favor of vaccine passports. I have received my first and second dose of the Pfizer vaccine and encourage those who want the vaccine to definitely get one. However, I don’t believe they should be mandatory. To me, it is un-American to segregate groups who haven’t received the vaccine. While there hasn’t been any discussion of implementing vaccine passports in San Diego County, I will not be supporting their implementation.

On the reopening front, we are making headway. Places of worship can now open to unlimited capacity, thanks to a Supreme Court ruling. Restaurants are up to 50% indoor capacity. And our San Diego Padres have increased their capacity to 33% at Petco Park, so more people can watch Joe Musgrove throw another no-hitter in-person.

We continue to make progress in San Diego County, and hopefully soon we will be back to normal.
