RE: 'Where's the truth' [Village News, Gubser letter, 4/29/21]

Letter writer Orolie Gubser seems to indicate that the rise in gasoline prices must be the fault of President Biden. The writer, apparently, does not understand how gasoline prices are set.

Gasoline is, of course, refined from oil. The price of oil is determined on a world wide market based on supply and demand. Over the past year, there has been a worldwide pandemic which has depressed economies around the world. The demand for oil has been down as a consequence.

Economies around the world, including ours, are starting to come back. Hence, demand for oil is up causing prices to reprise. Biden has little or nothing to do with the worldwide demand and price of oil or gasoline.

As to the border situation, what is happening is terrible, however, this same thing has been happening for over 20 years. I strongly believe that Biden and his administration are working to improve the situation for the unfortunate people caught in that mess.

In my opinion, we should be doing more in the several Latin American countries from where these migrants are coming from to try and stem the flow. I believe that we need a Marshall Plan for these countries. It is in our self interest as well as the interests of the Latin American countries for their people to stay at home and build back their countries.

The writer mentioned the "rigged election." Where is the "Beef?" No one can show that there was enough fraud to change the result. The best example of this is in Georgia. the Governor and all of the election officials are Republican. Most said they voted for Trump. They went over and over the votes and could not find fraud. Period. The election is over. Let it go!
