More than 100 people attended the annual Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce awards luncheon on May 19 at the Grand Tradition. Individuals, businesses, and organizations were recognized.

Receiving awards were:

• Brad Fox, Citizen of the year. The businessman is director of the Fallbrook Homeless Advocacy Group. He prefers the word "houseless" over "homeless" and works with local churches to provide help and hope to those in need. Busy with his work, Fox was not there to accept his award.

• Phyllis Sweeney, Lifetime Achievement Award. Known as the "original ambassador" for the Chamber, Sweeney works as a certified grief counselor with Encouragement Factor in Fallbrook. She has been involved in many roles with the Chamber, including serving on the board.

• Non-Profit of the Year went to two organizations: D'Vine Path and the Fallbrook Regional Health District. D'Vine Path is a dynamic and comprehensive program that provides vocational and life skills to people with autism and other disabilities through agriculture, hospitality, and the arts. Fallbrook Regional Health District provided COVID-19 testing and vaccines for Fallbrook, as well as many other services.

• Miriam Key, Ambassador of the Year. Ambassadors are volunteers with the Chamber who perform many duties, from answering the phone to delivering membership packets. She has a home-based business, Isagenix Nutritional Cleansing, and has been involved with the Chamber since 2014. She has been spearheading the Farmers Market in downtown Fallbrook.

• Major Market, Business of the Year. The independent "friendly neighborhood market" was recognized as having "no limit for what they do – they just want to do good." This year they stepped up by offering delivery to homebound seniors. The business has been a Chamber member for 31 years.

• David Zumaya, Chamber Member of the Year. Zumaya was cited for being "A cheerleader for our community." His business, My San Diego North County, promotes social media. He lives in Escondido and works in multiple cities but was recognized for his promotion of Fallbrook.

Nominations for the awards were made from the community, with winners selected by a Chamber committee.

Lila MacDonald, CEO of the Chamber, spoke about "Fallbrook Strong" in regards to the community response to COVID-19 exemplified by the honorees.

Martín Quiroz, outgoing president of the board had all the board members stand and be introduced before they were installed by Honorary Mayor Carlos Perez. The new president of the chamber board is Nicholas Beye, DDS.
