I know you don't have too much time to learn the whole history of DAV, but here's a quick synopsis.

Our Nationwide 100-year-old DAV family continues to serve both our veterans, their families, survivors, orphans, and our communities. We do this, not by ourselves... but with a village of individuals who care enough to seek out another way to give back to the country we promised to defend.

We are dedicated to a single purpose: empowering veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity. We accomplish this by ensuring that veterans and their families can access the full range of benefits available to them; fighting for the interests of America’s injured heroes on Capitol Hill; and educating the public about the great sacrifices and needs of veterans transitioning back to civilian life.

The Disabled American Veterans’ bread and butter specifically here in California, is being a leading veteran service organization in the areas of:

Benefit claims and service work. Providing free, professional assistance to veterans and their families in obtaining benefits and services earned through military service and provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs and other agencies of government.

Veteran Transportation Network. The VTN is a program where we team up with the VA, and provide transportation for veterans to and from their home to their VA appointments. We serve this program in two ways. One, as volunteer drivers; and the other, as a transportation coordinator – which is also a paid position within the DAV. And finally...

Legislation. Being a Member of the DAV, means being an active voice represented on the floors of the State Capitol, House of Representatives, and the Senate. Benefits that America's heros rate, such as the GI Bill or Post 9/11 education benefits or veteran specific home and business loans, all start at the ‘Grassroots’ level. A community member had an idea and brought it to the DAV team... and with enough power behind the legislative push, the world for veterans – forever changes for the better.

You have the power to be that change.

There are approximately 1.8 million veterans in California alone, and only approximately 20% are tapped into their benefits. Your help can be the difference in closing that gap, even if it’s simply encouraging other veterans to join so that we can continue to strengthen our legislative voice.
