Fallbrook 14U All Stars place 2nd in North County's C District Girls Softball

FALLBROOK – The Fallbrook 14U Softball team played valiantly during the C District Regional tournament in Ramona during the weekend of June 19 - 20 taking 2nd place overall and qualifying for the B State games in Lancaster in July. On Sunday, they won 3 back-to-back games versus Escondido, Ramona and North Shore leading them to the championship game versus San Dieguito. However, the heat and the exhaustion of back-to-back games began to take a toll on the players by the 4th game, allowing San Dieguito to take an easy win for the championship. Regardless, the team and parents were proud of their performance for the day!

Fallbrook 14U and San Dieguito had battled previously throughout the 2021 All Star season, trading wins and losses along the way and as of this weekend's tournament, Fallbrook has defeated each team in the C District at least once.

Despite starting the tournament with a 3-7 loss on Saturday to Ramona, dropping the team into the loser bracket to continue playing on Sunday, the team showed up stronger than ever and put on their performance of the season!

The first game against Escondido began at 10:00 am and ended with an 8-7 walk off victory after Valeria Cervera hit an RBI double. Aaliyah Arce tied up the score twice with 2 home runs that drove in 3 runs each time.

The team's efforts continued with an 8-6 win over Ramona following with a win over North Shore (15-10) taking the Fallbrook team out of the loser bracket and into the championship game versus San Dieguito where they finished in 2nd place! They were exhausted after playing 3 games in the Ramona heat. The last game ended by 5:30 pm capping a full day of non-stop play for Fallbrook. San Dieguito Coach David Bennett expressed his respect for the team's performance recognizing the effort and energy it took to get to the championship game.

Zeltzin Favela pitched in all games this weekend racking up 10 strikeouts, handling two games solo and was assisted in three games by Valeria Cervera and closer Grace Ahrend.

This team executed well on all levels; hitting, home runs, bunting, defense & fielding, pitching all with a positively fierce attitude regardless of whether they were behind or in the lead.

It is also important to mention that the 14U team is a combined team with 5 girls from the 12U spring team. This young and scrappy team defied the odds and made Fallbrook's presence known!

The team was managed by coaches Ricardo Favela, Dan Allegro and Natalie Peet and they will play in the B State games during the weekend of July 9-11 in Lancaster. They are currently fundraising to help cover the costs of travel and stay. If you would like to donate to the team you can do so through Venmo @Fallbrook-Girls-Softball or you can contact our board president, Jesse Ahrend, at 760-641-0607.
