Fallbrook High School's 2021 homecoming activities will take place Oct. 8-9, and that will also be a homecoming for 2005 Fallbrook High School graduate Nick Brust.

Brust is now Fallbrook High School's Associated Student Body director. He replaces Lauren Gardiner, who was promoted to assistant principal at the high school.

"He's very excited to be returning to his alma mater," Gardiner said. "He's also a native of Fallbrook and is very excited to be returning to our school and to our community."

The duties of the ASB director include teaching the leadership class, responsibility for the ASB budget, oversight of all student activities and events, development of a yearly activity calendar, coordination with stakeholders, coordination and leadership of pep rallies and assemblies, oversight of class competitions, oversight of Student Senate meetings, creation and oversight of the class advisers system, development of a club adviser handbook, oversight of marquee displays, oversight of ASB communication, oversight of the student store and spirit shop, supervision of athletic and other school events including organization of ticket sales and concessions, and attendance at various educational conferences.

"He was very active at a time here," Gardiner said of Brust. "He comes to us with a wealth of leadership."

Brust currently teaches two ASB classes of elected and appointed student body leaders. The two classes allow flexibility for students' schedules, and approximately 65 students are enrolled in one of the ASB classes.

Fallbrook High School's football team will host Valley Center High School for the Oct. 8 homecoming football game. The homecoming festivities will occur during halftime, although the selection of the homecoming court preceded the day of the game. Ten seniors were picked by their class to be the homecoming court, and the entire school will select the two actual homecoming royalty members.

Because of constraints with the synthetic turf at Fallbrook's stadium golf carts rather than cars will be used for the homecoming floats. Five floats will participate: the senior, junior, sophomore, and freshman class will each have a float while the fifth float will transport grand marshal Mark Sigmon.

Sigmon is a local insurance agent, and he is also a Fallbrook Chamber of Commerce member. He helped create the Adopt a Senior program and is being honored for his work with that endeavor. The halftime ceremonies will also honor AVID teacher Shannon Charles, who was selected as the outstanding and inspirational teacher by the senior class.

Four awards will be given to the floats: best use of color, most original, outstanding school spirit, and best representation of the homecoming theme. This year's theme is Electric 80s, which recognizes the 1980s when many of the current students' parents were in high school.

"We're expecting a very well attended event," Gardiner said. "We're very excited to do something that feels traditional."

The homecoming dance will take place Oct. 9 from 7-10 p.m. on the school's lower field.
