30 War heroes donate time to build a free roof for fellow vet
Ernesto and Isabel Aquino, Fallbrook homeowners, are the Roofs of Love 2021 Southern California Recipients of a new metal roof.
A slide is used to transport the heavy concrete tiles from on top of the roof to the people on the ground who were stacking them. The volunteers created a bucket brigade type line to help carry the heavy tiles from the top of the roof to the pallets on the ground.
Volunteers pass tiles from the roof and stack them on pallets. The tiles were taken off by hand and saved, so they could be recycled and reused on another roof for someone else in the future.
At the end of the tear off, volunteers have just a small section of roof left to take the tiles off in preparation for replacing them with a metal roof.
A volunteer on the roof helps take ridge tiles off the roof after all the other tiles have been removed.
FALLBROOK – Leading residential metal roofing manufacturer Todd Miler, CEO of Isaiah Industries, created the "Roofs of Love" campaign to build and donate free roofs for families in need nationwide.
Corona contractor and veteran himself, Ignacio Cesar Peinado, regional manager of Howard & Sons, Inc., along with 15 veterans, kicked off the Roofs of Love campaign with the "tear off" phase for fellow veteran Ernesto Aquino, Saturday, Oct. 16.
Aquino, GySgt/USMC Ret., lives in Fallbrook. The volunteers were from the Veterans of Foreign Wars California Motorcycle Club – San Diego Chapter. Peinado, who is a member of VFW CA MC, and Miguel Núñez (production manager) from Howard & Sons, Inc. were both present at the event as well.
The work continued Monday, Oct. 18. The final outcome of the work project will be unveiled in approximately two weeks.
