FALLBROOK – On Oct. 1, golfers from Riverside and San Diego County came to Journey at Pechanga for the inaugural North County Cup benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of North County. The event, which included 18 holes at Journey and an awards banquet at Pechanga, helped raise over $55,000 for the Club.
"We had such an incredible response from the community for this inaugural event," said Allison Barclay, CEO of the B&GC of North County. "None of this would have been possible without the dedication of our committee, board and the support of our sponsors."
For the tournament, golfers were given exclusive access to one of the best public golf courses in California, according to Golfweek. The challenging course is filled with beautiful views of the Temecula valley and pristine fairways and greens.
Immediately following the tournament, guests were treated to live music courtesy of a Fallbrook favorite, The Way Brothers. The banquet also included a delicious BBQ spread, a live auction with a trip to anywhere, and the presentation of awards to the tournament winners.
With a score of 51, Josh Underseth, Patrick Coughlin, Grant Morgan and Matt Cecil took home the first North County Cup. Linda Edelstein powered through the rest of the field and won the long drive contest; Patrick Lucy won the putting contest by sinking a tricky putt, and Brian Kaplan was closest to the pin, knocking it 3 feet 4 inches away from the hole.
With the success of this event, the club has already begun planning for next year's North County Cup, for Sept. 30, 2022. All proceeds of this event directly support the programs and services of the Boys & Girls Clubs of North County.
