Volunteer with the Fallbrook Land Conservatory

FALLBROOK – Fall is a great time to volunteer with the Fallbrook Land Conservancy, a local nonprofit that protects open space for wildlife and recreation. With over 3000 acres of protected land and a small staff, the FLC depends on volunteers to help maintain trails, remove invasive plants, and restore habitat on several local preserves.

Recent rains have softened the soil and cooler temperatures make the work easier, so now is the perfect time to get involved. Volunteers learn about native plants and wildlife, how to plant and care for wildlife habitat, skills that can be used at home as well. No experience is necessary, and tools and training are provided.

All ages and abilities are welcome, just bring some water, work gloves, and sun protection. In fact, FLC volunteer events are great opportunities for family bonding and a good way to get some exercise. Participation can also be used to fulfill community service hours, if needed.

The FLC's Save Our Forest committee is also kicking off its 2021/22 Environmental Education program in November, which connects fourth and fifth grade students in local public schools to nature. SOF visits each local school for one morning and then students take a field trip to a local preserve, so there are many opportunities to help and each takes only a couple hours.

Anyone interested in volunteering with the FLC can call 760-728-0889 or just show up at any of the following regular volunteer events:

First Saturday of each month – 8 a.m. – Volunteer Day at Monserate Mountain Preserve

Tuesdays – 10 a,m, – Sculpture Garden volunteers meet at Palomares House & Park

Wednesdays – 8:30 a.m. – Native Plant Restoration Team meets at Los Jilgueros Preserve

Second Sunday – 8 a.m. – Save Our Forest Old Highway 395 cleanup across 395 from Pala Mesa Resort

Third Wednesday of each month – 8:30 a.m. – Save Our Forest meets at Village Square (except August and December)

Third Saturday – 8:30 a.m. – Trails Committee meets at the Palomares House & drives to a preserve

Last Sunday of each month – 8:30 a.m. – Save Our Forest meets at Village Square (except August and December)

If none of these is convenient for someone, or they prefer to volunteer independently or with their own group, they can contact the FLC and a special project can be arranged. The FLC is grateful for the many hours volunteers have dedicated to achieving their mission to protect open space, and the generous support of the community and local businesses.
