FAA announces November events

FALLBROOK – Fallbrook Art Association's general meeting will be Saturday, Nov. 13, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Crossway Church in Fallbrook. General meetings are open to the public. November's meeting will be a special event (demo/workshop) featuring Russian born Katya Mezhova demonstrating her art to live jazz piano music. The audience is encouraged to participate by drawing along with Mezhova as the music plays for inspiration.

Participants should bring whatever media they prefer. Tables and seating provided or they bring their own easel. The cost to participate is $20 (cash only). Refreshments will be provided at intermission. At 9:30 a.m., before the live paint-along demo, Mezhova will do a critique of member's art. For more information, call 760-221-5577.

Katya Mezhova is a fine artist who has resided in the San Diego area since 2001. A passionate fan of music, her most noted works are those of local jazz musicians, done in real time and in her preferred material, soft pastel. Born in Soviet Russia, she was classically trained at the Art Universities in Moscow where she earned her Master's in Fine Art before immigrating to the states in 1995.

Mezhova shares a love of traditional art with her students, and teaches plein-air painting. She has a background in animation, mural art, calligraphy, illustration, and other talents. "I look at the Jazz musicians as I draw. I become the observer. In fact, I've gained an important life lesson from them. Whoever they are, whatever walk of life they come from, they have learned to put aside their ego when they make music. They have to be tuned into each other to improvise. It's never a competition, it's a conversation. It's a great lesson to take out into the world."
