Taylor wins five San Diego Press Club awards, including two first place honors

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Press Club, which hosts one of the largest regional journalism competitions in the U.S., celebrated the 2021 winners at an online award ceremony Oct. 25. Judges from various press clubs throughout the country had made their decisions and Nathalie Taylor, a Reeder Media associate since 2003, won five awards.

All of Taylor's stories were published in Reeder Media publications in 2021 – three in the 2021 Sourcebook Magazine and two in the Fallbrook Village News. The writer took home two first place awards, one second place award, one third place award, and one honorable mention. Taylor has won 94 professional journalism awards since 2004.

In the Travel/Domestic category, Taylor took first for "Redwoods and a bit of mystery at Samuel P. Taylor State Park," published in the Village News. Excerpts: "The intoxicating scent of damp redwood and smoke permeates the air. I breathe deeply. Rays of light illuminate the lacy ferns crowding the forest floor." "...the old swimming hole is where my brother and I spent many hours skipping rocks on the still surface, then disturbing the stillness by splashing in the cold water."

Another first place story was won in the Entertainment category for "'Holidays In Your Car' dazzles guests at Del Mar Fairgrounds," published in the Village News. An excerpt: "... you exit onto the stark pavement of Via De La Valle, where glowing lights vanish in the darkness of night. But, the show is a dazzling reminder that Christmas, and all that is sparkling and magical, is there for us to enjoy. COVID hasn't stolen Christmas...and this display of lights is proof of that!"

Taylor placed second in the Magazines/Public Service/Consumer Advocacy category for "Foundation for Senior Care – Finding Needs and Filling Them," published in the 2021 Sourcebook Magazine. The writer shared her second place award with Foundation for Senior Care Executive Director Patty Sargent. Taylor is grateful for Sargent's knowledge of the subject, and her assistance with the article.

The writer's third place award was in the Magazines/Entertainment category for "Dharlin Entertainment's 'The Journey of Thomas' to be Filmed in Sri Lanka." She also took honorable mention in the Magazines/Restaurant Review category for, "Struggle and Triumph – Fallbrook Restaurants that Survived the Pandemic." Both stories were published in the 2021 Sourcebook Magazine.

Taylor, who holds a BA degree in English from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, was seated on the Alumni Advisory Board for the university's College of Liberal Arts and English Department, from 2011 to 2018. Since 2015, she has been a San Diego Press Club Honorary Committee member.
