EFI to supply manufactured pump stations to RMWD

Engineered Fluid Solutions, Inc., will provide pre-manufactured pump stations to the Rainbow Municipal Water District.

The Rainbow board voted 4-0 Oct. 26, with one vacant seat, to approve a sole-source contract with EFI for the Turner, Hutton, and Dentro De Lomas pump stations. The Oct. 26 board action did not approve a purchase order for the pump stations but authorized Rainbow staff to specify the use of pre-manufactured pump stations from EFI.

"When those contracts are ready to let, we would sole source EFI for those contracts," said acting district engineer Chad Williams.

EFI manufactures both booster pump stations and pressure reducing stations, and Rainbow has utilized EFI in the past for pressure reducing stations.

"They make some fantastic stuff," Williams said. "They do a great job."

The EFI factory is in Centralia, Illinois. EFI provides design as well as manufacturing of potable water and recycled water pump stations. On Jan. 26 the Rainbow board awarded Hoch Consulting a contract to design the Hutton and Turner pump stations, and EFI has been working with Rainbow on the design and fabrication. EFI has also been working with Rainbow on the Dentro De Lomas station.

Pre-manufactured pump stations typically cost between 25 percent and 40 percent less than site-manufactured stations, but few companies provide pre-fabricated skid mounted pump station systems. "There's not a lot of competition," Williams said.
