Three seniors from Fallbrook High School and one from Oasis High School were recognized at the monthly breakfast on Nov. 3, sponsored by Fallbrook Student of the Month committee to honor outstanding students in the Fallbrook Union High School District.

Lynne Grantham, president of the committee, made the presentations and each student went on the stage individually with their family and the teacher who made the nomination.

The FHS students recognized were Marcos Arias, Alexis Rivera, and Daniel Winton. Brooke Machado was selected from Oasis.

Arias was nominated by Marin Pinnell, science teacher at FHS. He was described as a straight-A student as well as an athlete who participated in wrestling, track and football. Both his parents attended Fallbrook High School and his dad described him as being independent, inquisitive and reliable.

As a strong science student, Arias said he is considering several college options and would like a career in mechanical engineering or product design, possibly in the transportation industry.

Rivera was nominated by Lt. Col. William Wade, teacher and director of the Junior ROTC program, in which she has excelled. Wade said leadership development is a big part of ROTC and he could see that characteristic in her as a freshman. As a sophomore, she was head of the color guard training and as a junior was gunnery sergeant. This year, she is the senior commander and led the program to national recognition.

Rivera's parents said they were very proud of her and noted she takes school very seriously. Their daughter said she would likely attend UCLA or UC Berkeley and study psychology.

Winton was also nominated by Pinnell. Like the other FHS students, he took AP and honor classes. His sports at the school were tennis and football, and he is involved in his church, being a volunteer servant with the youth program.

Winton's father is a doctor, and his mother is a teacher. He said he would like to attend UCSD or UC Berkeley and become a middle school or high school teacher.

Machado was nominated by Tracy Markham, who teaches English, life science and social science at Oasis High School. Machado is noted for changing her hair color and wore blue for the breakfast. She has lifetime status with CSF and plans to attend a community college before transferring to a college in New York. Machado said her major would be English and she is motivated to become the first college graduate in her family. She said she would like to become a middle school teacher.

Three of the sponsors of the organization were present: Republican Women of California-Fallbrook, Fallbrook PTSA, and Fallbrook Village Rotary. Other sponsors are Angel Society, Coldwell Banker Village Properties, Del Rey Avocado, Dr. Ramos, OD, Fallbrook Propane, and Major Market.

The breakfast was held at North Coast Church in Fallbrook.
