Fallbrook High School’s girls volleyball team had the first CIF state playoff match in the program’s history Nov. 9.

The Warriors played at Saugus High School. The Centurions advanced to the second round of the Division III playoffs with a 25-9, 25-18, 25-16 triumph at Fallbrook’s expense.

“You’ve got to be proud of the girls; they made it,” said Fallbrook coach Chip Patterson. “They went and they showed.”

Fallbrook qualified for the state playoffs by reaching the final of the CIF San Diego Section Division III playoffs. The Warriors were seeded 15th among Southern California region teams. Saugus was seeded second.

“We were outmatched. They were a bigger team,” Patterson said.

The Centurions’ roster lists four players 6’0” or taller along with a 5’11” setter. “They did extremely well in putting the ball in our weak zone,” Patterson said. “They’re very talented girls.”

The loss finalized Fallbrook’s season record at 21-13, including an 8-2 Valley League record which gave the Warriors second place in the final league standings.

“There’s always next year,” Patterson said.

“I’m totally happy with the girls,” Patterson said. “It’s historic.
