Fallbrook Blanket Project gives warmth to seniors

FALLBROOK – The nonprofit Fallbrook Blanket Project gave 35 blankets, lap blankets and shawls, as requested, to the Foundation for Senior Care to be distributed to some of their home visited clients.

Foundation Executive Director Patty Sargent said, "On behalf of the Board of Directors and the staff of the Foundation for Senior Care, we would like to thank the members of the FBP for your thoughtful and generous donation of handmade blankets. We know seniors in our community will be thrilled to receive the one of a kind, generous gifts."

The Foundation for Senior Care is wholly supported by donations, bequests and grants. It totally relies on the contributions made by the community to help support its programs and services.

Those services are the Senior Care Advocacy Program which reaches out to the forgotten and lonely senior; the Adult Day Care (aka The Club) which provides respite for the caregiver and a safe and comfortable environment for seniors; the Care Van provides door-to-door transportation for medical appointments, grocery, pharmacy, and other locations; the Computer Learning Center offers friendly and informative classes for seniors wanting to learn. The foundation also offers an Expanded Rides Program, giving seniors rides to their out-of-town doctor appointments by volunteer drivers, and free seminars throughout the year to educate seniors on issues pertinent to their wellbeing.

The Club Administrator Lauren Marsh said, "I was absolutely thrilled when the Fallbrook Blanket Project reached out to offer blankets. Seniors are often chilly, even when its warm out, so when she offered to come by with some new blankets made by folks in our community, I was delighted to accept. There is nothing more cheerful than a fuzzy and colorful blanket, made with love. We feel so blessed to have been thought of!"

The Fallbrook Blanket Project consists of a group of ladies ( gentlemen welcome) who gather together every Monday from 10 a.m. to noon at Living Waters Church on Reche Road. They knit and crochet blankets of all sizes, hats, scarves, etc., to be donated to the less fortunate and charity fundraisers. The project is free, the donated yarn is free and new members are welcome any time.
