Fallbrook Youth Rugby places first at Rugby Tournament

FALLBROOK – Fallbrook Youth Rugby's U10 team (under 10 years old) placed first at the end of season Rugby Tournament Feb. 26 held in San Juan Capistrano. The U10 team had 26 athletes on the team, 24 of which had never played Winter 15's until this season.

Normally a team with such a lack of experience would play in the rookie brackets, but the team was placed in the Intermediate bracket. Coach Justin Robinson said, "In all my years of coaching, I have never seen better open field tackling in this age group. This team plays with heart. When I told them to bite down and go to work, they did, beating many teams far above their talent and size."

The team was led by team captains Hudson DeVries, Lucas Fitzgerald, Lauren Robinson and Vance Lingle. U10 team parent Deah DeVries added, "These kids worked hard and listened to all instructions given to them by the coaching staff and guest coach Stefan Ramirez. They always played as a team."

Coach Justin Robinson was especially proud of two players; he said, "The team's two full backs, Grayson Hernandez and Rowan Harnett, were the glue that held everything together even on the more difficult plays, often sacrificing themselves to help others on the team score or defend from an opposing team score."

To wrap it up, both Robinson and DeVries agreed that they were extremely proud of these kids, remarking, "Some days these athletes played up to four games, an exhausting schedule, but they left everything on the field and they deserved this win."
