VFW Post 1924 named March Post of the Month

VFW Post 1924 offers 'friendly' support locally and beyond

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Fallbrook, California, nicknamed "the Friendly Village," is home to Charles E. Swisher VFW Post 1924. Its members seem to take this reputation to heart. From hosting holiday celebrations to delivering meals and providing transitional housing, the Post 1924 spreads good near and far. The Post was chosen March Post of the Month out of 5,000 Posts across the country for #StillServing in their community.

During the week, veterans and non-veterans alike are invited to share a warm meal and company at Commander's Burger Night or special Friday dinners. Neighbors are likely to spot its members around town as well. Post 1924 partners with other local groups to place flags along Main Avenue for federal holidays.

For Memorial Day, Flag Day and Veterans Day, Post 1924 hosts special ceremonies to commemorate the service and sacrifice of the men and women who came before. Members also participate in Wreaths Across America to ensure no hero is forgotten.

Post 1924 shows up for today's veterans and servicemembers, too, by adopting overseas units to support active-duty military and their families. For those veterans who face hardship when they return home, members of Post 1924 volunteer with Wounded Warrior Homes. They work with the non-profit to provide transitional housing and other services to veterans suffering from traumatic brain injury or post-traumatic stress. For those experiencing food insecurity, Post 1924 members serve meals at community events throughout the year and provide Thanksgiving dinners to veterans in need.

Charles E. Swisher VFW Post 1924 Commander Chris Ingraham said, "We are honored to be selected as the National Organization's Post of the Month. We are the second Post in our district to be selected for this honor. We try to do right by veterans, the Active Duty and our community and it is nice to see that we are recognized for those efforts."

No matter the mission, Post 1924 succeeds in delivering positivity and comradery to veterans and non-veterans in Fallbrook and beyond. Whether its members are encouraging friends and neighbors to celebrate patriotic holidays or chipping in to ensure local veterans have food and shelter, they are committed to being there for others.

The VFW is proud to honor the members of Post 1924 who are #StillServing.
