Fallbrook Art Association to hold plein-air competition

FALLBROOK – Fallbrook Art Association has several upcoming events at The Gallery located at 300 N. Brandon Road. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. General meetings are held at the Fallbrook Women's Club, 238 W. Mission Road on the third Saturday of each month, always free and open to the public, 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Each general meeting includes refreshments, a chance to meet local artists, and features an art demonstration and a painting critique session at 9:30 a.m.

On April 9, the FAA will host its annual plein-air competition, a one day event open to all artists. Sign in at The Gallery at 9 a.m. to register and receive a map of the area with suggested locations to paint. Return to Village Square at Main and Alvarado for judging, awards presentation, and cash prizes no later than 2 p.m. Call 760-505-7238 for more information.

On April 16, the FAA will welcome Susan Avery Clark who will do a demonstration in watercolor. Her pleasing subjects, tranquil landscapes, florals, lively animals, and portraits appeal to a wide audience. Clark is an award-winning artist with works in private collections nationwide and in Europe.

Although Clark's expertise is watercolor, she is proficient in many other art media and techniques. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Arizona State University and has been teaching art since 1973. She taught adult education art classes for 23 years, then middle and high school art in Vista for 16 years. Visit Susanaveryclark.com to see more of her work.

Participants are asked to register for the workshop in advance. The cost to members is $40, $50 for non-members. Call Carol Reardon to register for the workshop and receive a materials list, 760-221-5577.
