2022 Commencement Ceremony will be held in person, on campus

SAN MARCOS – After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the springtime commencement ceremony will return to the Palomar College campus as a live and in-person event at 5 p.m., Friday, May 27.

Families and friends are welcome to attend the ceremony. It is recommended that all visitors complete the college health screening questionnaire, which can be found with additional information at https://www2.palomar.edu/pages/covid19/community-access-to-palomar-college-main-campus-and-education-centers/.

“We’re thrilled to once again be planning a safe, exciting commencement ceremony to be held on our beautiful San Marcos campus,” said Superintendent/President Dr. Star Rivera-Lacey. “And we’re looking forward to celebrating a class of students who have overcome many obstacles to earn their degrees and certificates this year.”

As in previous years, the ceremony will be held on the football practice field near parking lots 1 and 2, accessible from the main entrance off West Mission Road. The event will also be live-streamed online by the award-winning Palomar College Television production team.

This year’s keynote speaker will be the 2020-21 Distinguished Faculty Member, Richard Albistegui-Dubois, Ph.D., who teaches biology at Palomar.

Also expected to attend the ceremony is the college’s Alumna of the Year, Julie Moss, an Ironman and USA Triathlon Hall of Fame inductee who attended Palomar in the late 1970s and rose to fame when she crawled across the finish line at the 1982 Ironman World Championship. Moss’ memoir, “Crawl of Fame,” was published in 2018.

The 2020 commencement was held remotely, while in 2021 the college hosted a hybrid graduation event that combined a drive-through celebration with pre-recorded and live-streamed elements.
