The Patriot League boys basketball coaches named Bonsall High School senior Emil Watkins to the all-league first team and Bonsall sophomore Nathan Winebrenner to the Patriot League second team.

The Legionnaires were 3-5 in Patriot League play and had an overall record of 8-12. Bonsall was not given a CIF playoff berth.

Last year, Bonsall was in the Sierra League, and Watkins was on the all-league first team. “This is what happens when you put in the work,” said Bonsall coach Chuck Colletti.

Watkins was on the Bonsall squad for all four of his high school years. “Emil hardly played at all his freshman year,” Colletti said. “That was a more senior-oriented team.”

The 2018-19 season was also Colletti’s first as Bonsall’s coach.

“He really prospered,” Colletti said of Watkins. “He loves basketball.”

During the 2021-22 season Watkins averaged approximately 16 points per game and approximately seven rebounds per game. “Just an all-around good player,” Colletti said.

Colletti also noted the improvement of Winebrenner since his freshman year. “He was drastically improved from his freshman year to his sophomore year,” Colletti said.

“He’s put in the work, and he’s made himself a good player,” Colletti said. “He turned out to be an excellent player for us.”

This season Winebrenner averaged approximately 10 points per game and approximately 12 rebounds per game. “He was our big rebounder,” Colletti said.
