Garden club program will be a guide to garden hand tools

FALLBROOK – Jodi Bay will be the guest speaker at the Fallbrook Garden Club's May 31 general meeting, presenting "The Essential Guide to Garden Hand Tools." Garden hand tools are as big a part of gardening as seeds and plants. Selecting and using the right tool makes the work easier and safer for the plant and the gardener. The presentation will cover the different types of tools, their uses and what will work best for a particular task.

Additional topics to be shared are adaptive garden tools, understanding the cost vs value of garden tools, staying safe while using garden hand tools and garden tool maintenance.

Bay has been a UCCE Master Gardener since 2012. She is the chair of the Garden Tool Care committee whose goal is to teach the gardening community about garden hand tools. Additionally, she writes gardening articles for the 'Garden Mastery' column in the San Diego Union Tribune. When not talking about garden hand tools, she is teaching new vegetable gardeners the keys to success in growing their own vegetable garden.

Meetings are held at the Fallbrook Community Center, 341 Heald Lane. Social time starts at 12:30 p.m., the business meeting at 1:00 and the program at 2:00. The public is welcome. For further information relating to the club and its activities visit http://www.fallbrookgardenclub.org.
