Owner of Oceanview Mine to talk at FGMS meeting

FALLBROOK – The Fallbrook Gem and Mineral Society is holding its general meeting Thursday, June 2, at 7 p.m. The guest speaker will be Jeff Swanger, CEO of the Oceanview Mines and owner of the Oceanview, Pala Chief and Elizabeth R mines on Chief Mountain here in mineral rich San Diego County.

Swanger has had an interest in pegmatites and mining since he was a boy growing up in nearby Escondido. Now he's living his dream of discovering the next great gem pocket in the Pala Mining District. He will discuss the history of the Oceanview Mine and its major discoveries. World renown for tourmaline, kunzite, aquamarine, and other pegmatite minerals, the Oceanview mine is a public, "fee dig" site.

Swanger has generously supported FGMS over the decades. In fact, a weekend stay at the Miner's Camp along with a mine tour and mineral dig are the highlight of this year's annual FGMS Fall Festival of Gems raffle

The FGMS Museum is located at 123 W. Alvarado St. For more information, visit http://www.fgms.org.
