Two Republicans vying against each other in the State Assembly District 75 race is a result of district boundaries changes.

State Assemblywoman Marie Waldron was elected to the State Assembly in 2012, and hopes to remain in office.

Randy Voepel was the State Assemblyman for District 71, which was reconfigured, putting Voepel in District 75.

Waldron has been a member of the Escondido Chamber of Commerce for more than 20 years. She has been active with the Escondido Downtown Business Association and served as honorary chairwoman of the California Business Advisory Council. That council advocated on behalf of small California businesses to Congress, according to Waldron.

Waldron has also been a Republican Party activist and a city councilwoman.

"As a Republican Assembly Leader, I took the fight to liberals in Washington and Sacramento," Waldron said.

She said she will fight the "Defund the Police" movement. She stated that she believes in eliminating the unfair regulation that make it hard to start a new business or hire new people. Waldron also said that she opposes the liberal plan for a massive tax hike to put government in charge of our healthcare.

Randy Voepel served as Assemblyman in the 71st District for six years, and said that he proudly served the people of East County San Diego for the past 26 years: four on city council, 16 as mayor of Santee, then the six as assemblyman.

"California is a state in crisis. The Democrat supermajority in Sacramento refuses to acknowledge that California leads the nation in homelessness, gas prices, taxes and skyrocketing crime," Voepel stated.

Voepel believes in creating an economic environment for small businesses to thrive and recover from covid-19. He said his office helped 2,500 families claim the unemployment benefits they were entitled to receive. He also said that he has been "putting pressure on Sacramento politicians for months to suspend the gas tax and bring immediate relief at the pump."
