Ezekiel Maletych had the highest cumulative grade-point average among the 2022 Bonsall High School graduates this year, to earn the distinction of being the valedictorian, while Andrea Calderon received salutatorian recognition for having the second-highest grade point average.

Maletych graduated from Bonsall High School with a 4.52 grade point average.

"He's a hard-working young man. He has a really good focus on education," said Bonsall High School Principal Jason Fowler.

Fowler noted that Maletych let his actions rather than his words influence others. "He's one of those kids who's so quiet," Fowler said.

Calderon had a cumulative grade point average of 4.47.

"Andrea's a real leader around the school. She's a role model for other students," Fowler said. "She's been a big part of the planning process for a lot of our clubs and events."

Maletych plans to attend California State University San Marcos during 2022-23.

Calderon plans to continue her academic activities at the University of California, San Diego.

"I'm very proud of the senior class," Fowler said. "They've had an unusual education."

The coronavirus outbreak in March 2020 caused Bonsall High School to transition to distance learning.

"They really had to mature a lot over the course of the last year and a half, and they've done a great job," Fowler said.
