BUSD approves $30.6M budget

The Bonsall Unified School District approved a $30,647,459 budget for Fiscal Year 2022-23.

The budget was approved at a special BUSD board meeting June 29. The budget is a slight increase from the $30,558,506 for fiscal year 2021-22.

“I’m pleased,” said BUSD Superintendent Joseph Clevenger. “Bonsall Unified is excited about the upcoming year, and we feel that we have effectively prioritized our resources.”

School districts had received some extra funding due to coronavirus measures, and the State of California will continue that funding. “We’ll be able to sustain the efforts that we created,” Clevenger said.

The 2021-22 budget included $30,558,506 of expenditures but $32,658,230 of revenues, which increased the fund balance from $9,230,795 at the beginning of the fiscal year to $10,991,746 for the end of 2021-22 and thus the start of 2022-23.

The planned revenues for 2022-23 are reduced to $29,770,930, but that still leaves $9,555,656 of reserves. The reserves are comprised of $5,935,006 of unassigned money, $2,664,439 of restricted funding, $936,211 designated for economic uncertainties, and a $20,000 revolving cash fund.

The $30,647,459 will cover $12,629,244 for certificated staff salaries, $3,800,537 for classified staff salaries, $7,883,600 for employee benefits, $4,207,577 for services and other operating expenses, $1,089,020 for books and supplies, $431,577 for capital expenditures, $197,048 for debt service, and $408,857 for other costs.
