Celebrate the foundation of America

FALLBROOK – The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution urges Americans to reflect on the United States Constitution during this month's annual observance in honor of this foundational document of national governance.

Monserate Chapter, a Fallbrook area chapter of the DAR, is celebrating Constitution Week, Sept. 17 – 23 in their community.

"We are so proud DAR led the way in making Constitution Week an official commemoration and our members enthusiastically promote the celebration annually in communities across the country by erecting community displays, sponsoring municipal proclamations, ringing bells and staging programs to raise awareness of the Constitution's tenets and importance," said DAR President General Pamela Rouse Wright. "We encourage all citizens to join us in celebrating this powerful document that is so important to American history and to reflect on the impact the Constitution has had on the lives of American citizens past and present."

This year, Monserate Chapter has set up a colorful display of information about the Constitution at the San Diego County Fallbrook Branch Library. All are invited to visit the library at 124 S. Mission Ave. There will be Constitution booklets, patriotic pencils, stick flags, word puzzles and coloring pages to pick up and learn about the Constitution.

The Monserate Chapter encourages the community to celebrate this week by sending Constitution Week toolkits to local schools and churches. As part of its annual observance, the chapter participates in providing fun and educational programs to local schools featuring patriotic songs, poster contests and entertaining skits, such as an appearance by Betsy Ross while students color and learn about the three branches of our government.

By fostering knowledge of, and appreciation for, the Constitution, DAR helps to keep alive the memory of the men and women who secured the nation's foundational liberties.

Each person of the Fallbrook community was encouraged to ring a bell at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 to commemorate the "Bells Across America" when the Constitution was signed. This great country could unite with the sound of bells.
