Stagecoach Sunday kicks off fall festivities Oct. 2

FALLBROOK – Stagecoach Sunday rolls into town on Oct. 2 as the Fallbrook Land Conservancy celebrates its 34th year at the historic Palomares House and Park in Fallbrook.

"We are so excited for this year's Stagecoach Sunday," commented Michelle Jorden, event chair and member of the FLC's board of directors. "Our committee has been working hard to make this year's event a fantastic success and we look forward to another big turnout."

The festivities will begin at 11 a.m. and end at 3 p.m., with horse-drawn stagecoach rides, live music performed by the popular local band, Daring Greatly, and a "saloon" with beer crafted by the locally owned Booze Brothers Brewing.

A silent auction and raffle will feature golf and other sports packages, coupons from local businesses, jewelry, handicrafts, artwork and a variety of other items.

Winners of the FLC's Second Annual "Go Wild" Photo Contest will also be announced at the event. Go Wild features photos of wildlife, families and dogs who use FLC preserves as habitat or recreation.

The Rib Shack, a popular local eatery, will serve a barbeque lunch starting at 11 a.m. The menu includes slow-cooked chicken and ribs, corn and beans, with brownies for dessert. Cost of the lunch is $20 for adults and $10 for children age 12 and under. Admission and parking is free. Service dogs are the only animals allowed.

During Stagecoach Sunday, Palomares Park will also house several nature exhibits, including presentations of various animal species by Wild Wonders and booths hosted by nonprofit partners like Save Our Forest, Wings of Change and the Fallbrook Beautification Alliance. Jeff Nordland of the North American Herpetological Association will also be on hand with several snake species native to this area.

Other hands-on activities for kids will be offered in a special Kids Corral. At a cost of $25, a Kids Corral Pass includes a kid's lunch and drink, with unlimited carnival games, crafts, face painting and one stagecoach ride.

"Stagecoach Sunday is not only a wonderful community event, but vital to the mission of the FLC," said Susan Liebes, chairman of the FLC's board of directors. "We couldn't continue our land conservation and environmental education work without the help of our members and local businesses."
