San Diego Youth Symphony to perform in Fallbrook

FALLBROOK – Fallbrook Music Society is proud to welcome the San Diego Youth Symphony's Ovation level Chamber Orchestra to its premier performance Sunday, Nov. 20 at the Bob Burton Center. This Ovation level ensemble features students from ninth grade up to age 22, and represents the most experienced string, woodwind, brass, and percussion musicians in the San Diego region.

Consisting of approximately 50 gifted young musicians, this advanced Chamber Orchestra studies and performs advanced repertoire spanning the 18th century through the 21st century. The dynamic musical program features Mendelssohn's "Hebrides Overture" (Fingal's Cave), Haydn's "Symphony No. 7, Le Midi," Anton Dvorak's "Symphony No. 8, III Allegretto Grazioso," and "Intermezzo" from Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascagni. As a special bonus to the Fallbrook program, the finalists from the annual Ovation Concerto Competition will also be featured on center stage.

"We are privileged and delighted to welcome this premier group of young musicians to Fallbrook," said Bob Freaney, president of Fallbrook Music Society. "Audience members will be impressed by their fresh and dynamic approach to music making under the leadership of one of America's most exciting young conductors, Sameer Patel. Maestro Patel has been impressing audiences across the country, and he'll do the same for us in Fallbrook," he added.

Sameer Patel is the newly appointed artistic director of the San Diego Youth Symphony. He recently concluded an acclaimed tenure as associate conductor of the San Diego Symphony, where he reinvigorated the orchestra's programming and connection with its community.

The San Diego Youth Symphony, a transformational organization, reaches more than 3,000 students in its community through its thirteen ensembles, El Sistema-inspired classroom programs and early childhood music classes.

The Chamber Orchestra's performance will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20, in the Bob Burton Theater at Fallbrook High School, 2400 S. Stage Coach Lane. The theater opens at 1 p.m., concert hall doors open at 1:30, and the concert begins at 2 p.m. This concert is free admission.
