FHS Christmas Open House had something for everyone

FALLBROOK – Thanks to event organizers Pat Saunders and Leo Romero, this year’s Christmas Open House, which took place Dec. 4, was a big success with something for everyone at the Fallbrook Historical Society Heritage Center.

Themed “A Toyland Christmas,” the annual event’s biggest draw was, not surprisingly, the presence of Santa and Mrs. Claus, who listened attentively as local youngsters shared their holiday wishes with the famous couple.

Entertainment by Fallbrook’s own Slacker Hill Band was another highlight, as they performed throughout the day, offering Christmas classics and more, including a rousing rendition of Johnny Cash’s “A Boy Named Sue.”

Saunders, resident artist and this year’s Member of the Year, offered crafting activities to the young and young at heart. And FHS members Mary Belton and Clay Kreul staffed an outdoor gift booth, selling T-shirts, photos, postcards and an assortment of other Fallbrook memorabilia.

The event also included guided tours of the Heritage Center’s popular Pittenger House, the Gem and Mineral Museum, and the Donald J. Rivers Interpretive Center, also known as “The Barn.” Free refreshments were available to all guests.

“It was a great event, thanks to all those who worked so hard to make this successful,” said FHS President Roy Moosa. “Everyone seemed to enjoy our displays, and the Slack Hill Band was a wonderful addition. We hope this event will result in more visitors to the Heritage Center, and greater interest in our mission to preserve the history of our community.”
