Leonard E. Berkstresser, Jr

Leonard E. Berkstresser, Jr., 88, passed peacefully Feb. 1, 2023, at 9:40 a.m. at his residence in Fallbrook, California. Len was born Dec. 13, 1935, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, to the late Leonard E. Berkstresser, Sr. and Lois M. Berkstresser of Fulton County, Pennsylvania

Following his graduation from Richland Area High School, Len was hired by National Cash Register (NCR). A pioneer in the computer industry, he was trained as a cash register repairman for NCR, quickly becoming a Senior Systems Analyst, for which he traveled over the world.

He had a very successful career, allowing him to work as an independent contractor. Len retired to Fallbrook, California to be close to his remaining family and enjoy the beautiful weather.

Len was a gregarious, intelligent and independent man. At a young age, he was a mentor to his nephew and enjoyed tinkering with autos and motorcycles. Len became a lover of the finer things in life. He enjoyed traveling (whether by car, boat or plane); meeting people and enjoying fine food with family and friends.

He was generous to his parents and siblings, always insisting he pay for dinner. He was proud of his roots, spending many hours researching his family heritage. He was a plant enthusiast, having a beautiful, landscaped yard and growing his own fruit trees on his patio. In his later years, he continued working, traveling and became active in community affairs.

In 1955, Len married Beverly Jean Kramer and they were the parents of two sons, Bradley and Leonard, III. Len lived with his family in Falls Church, Virginia, Dayton, Ohio, and Boca Raton, Florida. Len was also married to Sacramento Monge for a brief time.

Len is survived by his son, Bradley of Gainesville, Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly, and his son, Leonard, III; and his siblings, Ken, Dale, Ted and Don Berkstresser; and his sisters, Betty King and Lois Carrollton.

Per his wishes, his body was donated to the University of California at San Diego. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
