Las Patronas awards major grant to Feeding San Diego

SAN DIEGO – Feeding San Diego is honored to be the recipient of a major grant from local philanthropic organization Las Patronas. The funds, which total $95,182, will be used to help purchase a new box truck that will transport food across San Diego County, including to rural areas, and provide food assistance in remote areas from Descanso to Santa Ysabel.

Feeding San Diego is one of seven non-profits selected to receive critical funding, and is the recipient of one of the largest single major grants in the history of Las Patronas’ grantmaking.

“We are incredibly grateful to Las Patronas for continuing to fund critical needs within our organization,” said Ali Colbran, director of development at Feeding San Diego. “We have a long history with the organization, which has been funding Feeding San Diego for over a decade. Their generosity has made an incredible impact in the work that we do providing nutritious meals to people in need throughout San Diego County.”

Feeding San Diego requires a fleet of trucks and vans to coordinate the nearly daily deliveries of food it provides for its network of 370 local charities, schools, faith-based organizations, after-school programs, and food pantries. The nonprofit’s commercial drivers are in the field six days a week to provide nutritious food for no-cost food distributions that people experiencing food insecurity rely on. The organization’s Mobile Pantry Program helps address rural hunger by providing food to communities in the rural north and southeast areas of the county.

“It is with great happiness and confidence that we provide this funding to our longtime partner, Feeding San Diego,” said Julie Bubnack, president of Las Patronas. “We have seen firsthand what the organization is capable of in its mission to connect every person facing hunger with nutritious meals by maximizing food rescue.”

Since its inception in 1946, Las Patronas has been committed to providing financial assistance to nonprofit organizations in San Diego County that provide valuable community services in the areas of health, education, social services, and cultural arts, and to continue its tradition of service to enhance the quality of life in the community.
