Fallbrook A Leer is coming back

FALLBROOK – The annual Fallbrook A Leer/Reading & Family Literacy Event is returning Saturday, April 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., to the Maie Ellis Educational Center Campus, 400 W Elder St. Registration begins at 9 a.m. All families are invited to attend.

This year's event will feature a special guest, Andres Chavez, grandson of Cesar Chavez. Chavez's famous and important quote states: "You cannot uneducate the person who has learned to read." His wise words are the inspiration for Fallbrook A Leer's annual Day of Service and Literacy.

Fallbrook A Leer has been under the direction and leadership of Leticia Maldonado Stamos for the past 19 years and will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2024.

Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged. Fliers have already been sent home with students in the Fallbrook Union Elementary School District. The first 60 students from each school will receive admission tickets and free books will be given to each child. The program includes story reading for all children in grades K-6, a special storytime for preschool children ages 3-4, and a Children's Literacy Arts and Crafts Circuit.

Families are invited to attend this fun and educational event to support literacy for children in the community. The morning program also includes reading workshops for parents conducted by expert presenters. There will also be a raffle and other prizes given out during the event.

The enjoyment and value of reading plays a very important role in the academic success of children and literacy and education are needed for the next generation to achieve success in life; in addition to just learning to enjoy the love and imagination of reading.

This annual event is coordinated by Fallbrook A Leer, a Fallbrook-based, grass-roots local organization working with local schools; it was honored at the 33rd Annual Golden Bell Award for Parental/Community Involvement by the California School Boards Association in 2012.

In addition to promoting literacy, Fallbrook A Leer also celebrates the Cesar Chavez Day of Service and Learning and is a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Project.
