Palomar Community College District board elects officers

SAN MARCOS – The Palomar Community College District Governing Board elected new officers Tuesday, April 11, at its regular board meeting. While it is standard for the governing board to elect officers at an organizational meeting in December, it was necessary to elect new officers following the February 2023 resignation of board President Christian Garcia and the board’s appointment of a provisional trustee at their special meeting held Tuesday, March 21.

The governing board voted unanimously to elect Roberto Rodriguez as president of the board. Judy Patacsil, Ph.D., was elected vice president, and Michelle Rains was elected the board secretary, also by unanimous votes.

“I am grateful for the governing board’s timely and deliberate actions to elect the officers of the board. The district is fortunate to have dedicated and collaborative leaders as we seek to accomplish our mission and pursue our established institutional goals and objectives,” Star Rivera-Lacey, Ph.D., superintendent and president of Palomar College, said.

Board President Roberto Rodriguez said he was humbled by the results of the election and thanked his colleagues for their thoughtful confidence. Rodriquez has been presiding over the governing board meetings as vice president since former Area 2 Trustee Christian Garcia was appointed to the Escondido City Council in February. At a special meeting March 21, the governing board appointed Cassandra Schaeg as the provisional trustee for Area 2.

The PCCD Governing Board of Trustees consists of Jaqueline Kaiser, Judy Patacsil, Michell Rains, Roberto Rodriquez and Cassandra Schaeg. More information can be found at the Palomar College Governing Board website, https://www.palomar.edu/governingboard/.
